I've just started biking.. and my helmet looks really big on my body, I'm not big.. 5'8. So.. do the external dimensions of helmets vary? would a more expensive helmet made from more sophisticated materials be smaller in external dimensions? or are they much the same?

Yes, they are different sizes. Try different brands. More expensive helmets tend to be lighter, although not always. Permalink:
